Hitler flies in new personal aircraft

Hitler's Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor.

On this day, German chancellor Adolf Hitler flew for the first time in his new personal transport plane.

The aircraft, a Condor Fw 200 V3, was modified to contain two luxurious cabins and it was unarmed. Hitler had a dedicated seat aboard the aircraft, which was an armchair-style seat in the cabin which was equipped with a wooden table, seat-back armour plating, and a parachute in the seat cushion, with an escape hatch in the floor.

The aircraft was ultimately destroyed by Allied bombing in 18 July 1944.
