A German u-boat was sunk by British destroyers on this day. The British ships remained in the area and rescued all 43 crew, with not fatalities.
U-35 was on patrol in the North Sea when she was attacked by three Royal Navy destroyers, HMS Kingston, HMS Icarus and HMS Kashmir. The destroyers dropped depth charges into the water and damaged the u-boat beyond repair. The commander of the u-boat, Kapitänleutnant Werner Lott, decided to scuttle the submarine. The three British destroyers deployed boats to rescue the 43 crew members of the u-boat.
The crew of U-35 would end up prisoners of the British and would ultimately survive the war, unusual for u-boat crew who normally had a low survival rate.
