German troops have now reached the outskirts of the Polish capital city of Warsaw.

After a fierce onslaught by the invading Germans, the Polish city of Łódź surrenders. The city had been defended by General Juliusz Rómmel, who a few days ago was cut off from his own army and forced to retreat with his staff to Warsaw.
