Canada declares war on Germany

Canada today joined other British Empire nations in declaring war on Germany.

On 3rd September, Canadian Prime Minister Mackenzie King made a radio broadcast from Ottawa in which he recommended Canada declared war. The recommendation was then passed to the Canadian parliament for a debate. A debate is not strictly necessary as the King of Canada, King George VI, has ‘royal prerogative’ and does not require parliamentary approval. This marks Canada’s entry into WW2.

…a Proclamation should be issued in the name of His Majesty, in Canada, declaring that a state of war with the German Reich has existed in Canada as and from September tenth.
