British Prime Minister rejects Hitler’s offer of peace

British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain today rejected an offer of peace from Adolf Hitler.

Speaking in the House of Commons before his fellow MPs, Neville Chamberlain official and formally responded to the offer from Hitler.

[A settlement with Nazi Germany] must be a real and settled peace, not an uneasy truce interrupted by constant alarms and repeated threats.

Chamberlain went on to criticise Hitler for only showing interest in peace negotiations once Germany had conquered Poland. The Prime Minister said peace negotiations cannot happen if they forgive and forget previous aggressive acts.

The Prime Minister ended his speech by saying that he couldn’t trust Hitler due to the German leader’s previous actions.

Past experience has shown that no reliance can be placed upon the promises of the present German Government.
