Great Synagogue of Łódź burnt to ground by Nazis

Another Polish synagogue was destroyed by the Nazis on this day. This time it was the Great Synagogue of Łódź.

The Germans attacked the synagogue on the night of the 14th November. The Nazis burnt the Torah scrolls inside the synagogue, along with the interior of the building. A year later, the Nazis dismantled and removed the ruins.

Built in 1881, and funded by locals, the synagogue’s destruction is yet another sign of the Nazi’s growing determination to remove the innocent Jewish people from their homes.
